View Full Version : Saving GE data directly to GPS?

I have a Lowrance iFinder GPS, and I use Google Earth for waypoint, track, and route management.

Using the Mac version of GE and GPSBabel, I've been able to write some AppleScripts that let me save data out of Google Earth directly to the GPS's data card. That is, I save a KML file of locations on the data card, and they're automatically converted into the right format for the GPS.

Is this feature already built in to the PC version of GE?

I dont know anything about it at all but I think its only for GE Plus.

I use the PC version of GE Plus, and while it's possible to import data directly from a GPS device, there's no way to export it directly or in a format which can be be read by GPS utilities. I also ended up writing a small program to convert an exported kml file to gpx format.

Im not sure, I think I saw a free program that did export it but can't find it again. You could try searching google some more or bbs.keyhole.com

Thanks for the feedback.

I'm surprised this isn't available in the free version on the PC.

The conversions are easy using the free [http://www.gpsbabel.org]GPSBabel[/url] program. I have it automated now on the Mac so that all the conversion happens in the background -- it's just like GE supports the native format for my GPS.
