I've become fairly obsessed with trying to find this boat (http://www.planeboats.com/Other%20Pages/Photos/boat/off%20fort%20lauderdale.html). It started it's life as a Boeing 307 Stratoliner, so needless to say it's extremely distinctive and hard to miss from any angle...except from 500 ft. directly above it through foggy glasses.
It's owned by a guy named Dave Drimmer, and when the services of the Muffin are not being rented or it's on display somewhere in the canals, it's kept moored behind Dave's house...somewhere in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. I just cannot by any means figure out where that is. I've done all the detective work I can think of short of calling Dave Drimmer and asking where he lives. That might work, but...uh...I'm shy.
I've actually spent hours scanning miles and miles of canals in Ft. Lauderdale (while watching TV...I'm not sick), but except for a 1.5-square mile patch of really spectacular resolution, it's all pretty mediocre res. Not good enough to pick out a specific 46-foot-long-boat-shaped-thing amongst thousands of boat-shaped-things.
Anybody know anything about this boat's whereabouts? Please, feel free to make me feel stupid.
the closest I got was checking the whois and checking the "contact us" page of his site, where I found;
Plane Boats, Inc. / David R. Drimmer
P.O. Box 7245
Fort Lauderdale, FL 33338
drimmer@planeboats.com
954•462-8676
Now going off the fact that its a PO box, and thats probably near his house, possibly his local shops.. I'm going to check out his postcode in GE, and look at costal areas in that region... after all that has to narrow it down somewhat :)
Unfortunately I took a relatively good look at the area and due to my lack of boat-identifying skills I had no luck, the good news is that is a very high res area :)
placemark attached for the postcode, good look in your hunt!

I have sent an e-mail to him asking if I could get info on where it is located so I hope to get a reply soon.

Simply looking round Ft Lauderdale will take forever. There must be hundreds of boats and ships in that area, as there is a lot of space to moor up. Almost every house has a boat!

This stetch of water looks like where it could be moored in one of the other photos (there is one of it moored). The red pavement, and also the shape of the quayside are very similar.

Good thinking homing in with the zip code, araT. That's something a suburbanite like me would never have thought of..I'm in a one-zip village. And Lord SteveO definitely nailed the dock in that photo. And both of these things are right smack in the middle of that nice high-res patch of Ft.Lauderdale. I took a pretty good look at that patch the other day, just cause it was easy...hopefully it's in there and I just missed it.
As I requested GEH4EVA has successfully made me feel like an idiot. Somehow I forgot, while sitting here at my COMPUTER, that there were less "intimate" communication options than the telephone available to me. In my defense, I was born in 1979, and like everyone else born in 1979, I have ADD.
Thanks, everyone.

OK I got an e-mail from Dave and here is what it said The plane-boat was docked for a long time at 140 Isle of Venice here in
Ft.
Laud. I've seen it on Google maps, so it should be more visible on
Earth. Good
hunting!
Warmest regards,
Dave
So someone might like to try that.

Cool, i'd have never found it just by looking. It looks just like...a boat! But when you see the photos of it you can tell that this is it.
