I am trying to locate the sites of a series of castles built in the Middle East by Knights who went on the Crusades in the Middle Ages. The most famous of these was the Krak de Chevaliers, a huge castle built to offer protection to pilgrims on their way to the Holy Land. The castles were built in what is now Turkey, Lebanon, and Israel. The Crusader Castles were the subject of his University Thesis by T.E.Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) who walked over one thousand miles visiting the castles whilst making drawings and writing descriptions of them. In many instances this was the first description ever made. Many thanks to anyone who can offer advice or help in this matter.
