Alright, sorry if this has been posted but I cant seem to find the anwser. I have seen the thread about google and its differnt overlays and pictuers ect. But where do you all get these super high resolution pics that you can actually see people that it is so clear? I doanloaded a bunch that "overlay" onto my current google earth, however it is just a patch and is not a big area. How do you get those areas? Do you request them or something? I just dont get it...

Also, what is the average time a area is updated? For example my town is in relitivly good quility 15697, Pa, but the picture is over a year old. We have had an addition built on to our house. I would obviously be able to see that and it does not show up. Also the city's east of me are super crappy quility, how do you get those high res patchs?

Final question...
Are some pictures from aircrafts instead of stalilte? How can you tell?

Thanks

High Resolution pics come from many sources, but our members don't have hi-res of just anywhere, so usually we wil tell everyone if we obtain hi-res of a certain area. The very detailed pics are usually from aircraft(note: the National Geographic mega flyover of Africa), but some can be from sattelites. Google updates thier image database about once a month, but not everywhere is affected because the world is very large. The images are claimed to be 6months -2years old, but some areas are almost 7 years old :slant: As far as distinguishing between aircraft and sattelite photos, it's anyone's guess, unless it tells us otherwise. So to sum it up, hi-res cannot be requested from Google, but members may have some themselves, but watch for updates.
I hope this answered all your questions ;)

I liked your answers to the questions and would like to add that updates are not always better. Where I live in Lakeland Fl. was better than it is now. The last update didn't come out as good as the pictures were before. I will have to wait until the next update of this area before I will be able to locate and see my house.

Very true Droopy, very true indeed. Nobody here can explain the reason either, good point. ;)
