This is a discussion thread for the following file:<br><br><b><a href=http://www.googleearthhacks.com/dlfile17686/Kosovo.htm>Kosovo</a></b><br><br>This file includes two maps of Kosovo.<br />
&quot;Kosovo has a government of its own, with an Albanian president and prime minister. Independence is close. Yet all the problems remain.<br />
<br />
Pristina is 30 years behind the times. There are power-cuts every day. Unemployment is nearing 55%.&quot;<br />

Does anybody like the new way of presenting multiple placemarks/overlays, or do you prefer the older method of just one picture of many?

I Like the new way,although why don't you post this in the mod section?

BradG7
05-06-2006, 02:04 PM
Because I wanted to ask people that submit files, not just mods, besides, maybe this file's creator didn't like the way I made the thumbnail, so I asked the whole community ;)

Maybe add a smoother fade.

function fadeOut(objId,opacity) {
if (document.getElementById) {
if (opacity >= 0) {
document.getElementById(objId).style.MozOpacity = opacity/100;
opacity -= 10;
window.setTimeout("fadeOut('"+objId+"',"+opacity+")", 100);
}
}
}

Just to let you know Zothip, He can't change the fade by using programming.

Yes you can. you can overlay PHP scripts.

Yes you can. you can overlay PHP scripts.

By that you mean?

Zothip

If you have a PHP script that is set to MIME code output as PNG, you can overlay it.

Which means if you have a group of images of one area, you can flip through the images using the overlayed PHP, and allow the network refresh to get the new image.

<?php

header("Content-type: image/png");
$string = $_GET['text'];
$im = imagecreatefrompng("images/button1.png");
$orange = imagecolorallocate($im, 220, 210, 60);
$px = (imagesx($im) - 7.5 * strlen($string)) / 2;
imagestring($im, 3, $px, 9, $string, $orange);
imagepng($im);
imagedestroy($im);

?>

<?php
// Set the content-type
header("Content-type: image/gif");

$fontsize = 18;
if(@$_GET['fontsize']) {
$fontsize = $_GET['fontsize'];
}
$font = 'yourcustomfont.ttf';
$text = @$_GET['text'];

// Create the image
$size = imagettfbbox($fontsize, 0, $font, $text);
$width = $size[2] + $size[0] + 8;
$height = abs($size[1]) + abs($size[7]);

$im = imagecreate($width, $height);

$colourBlack = imagecolorallocate($im, 255, 255, 255);
imagecolortransparent($im, $colourBlack);

// Create some colors
$white = imagecolorallocate($im, 255, 255, 255);
$black = imagecolorallocate($im, 0, 0, 0);

// Add the text
imagefttext($im, $fontsize, 0, 0, abs($size[5]), $black, $font, $text);

// Using imagepng() results in clearer text compared with
imagegif($im);
imagedestroy($im);
?>

Yes but what i'm saying is that BradG7 simply put those two images into a program,saved it as a .GIF image and uploaded the image to GoogleEarthHacks.

I didnt download it. You can do entire phase shift lines of battle using PHP. Pretty neat, but you are limited to 1 second refresh.

Yes, I use Ulead GIF animator 5, I don't like to use scripts or codes, to tricky, but I could. I see what you mean, Zothip< but this is just one file and it's just the fact that there will be plenty of files to do this to, and a script takes too long, this is just done in my free time ;)

I prefer the non-moving thumbnail ;) But you can leave this one as it is. Thanks for asking

By the way, how did you become a mod??

how did you become a mod??

I put him foward to be a Moderator because he is a very trustworthy freindly person, and now he is good at file approvals.

Yes, the topic is Kosovo. I was surprised to find no map of this region on GEH, so I made this file myself. Seems like, despite it being in the news just a few years ago, everybody ignores Kosovo now...

BradG7

Yes, well most Americans over here think Kosovo is a Pacific Island :lol: (truth)

From this survey:
"Half of young Americans can't find New York on a map."

Zothip

Half cannot show India on a map of Asia. WTF??? ?!!?!?

stefankarakashev

OK, the list is long, but just one more:
"29% of young Americans (aged 18-24) think that the current population of the United States is between 1 billion and 2 billion people."

"29% of young Americans (aged 18-24) think that the current population of the United States is between 1 billion and 2 billion people."

That's depressing. Really. Other than the fact that 60% of Americans are obese.

Also: 67% of surveys are made up

Finally: really sad that this file has 34 downloads and 34 comments. Almost more comments than downloads.

I agree, this should be pruned off the general.
