Submarine Ocelot was the last warship built for the Royal Navy at Chatham and served the Royal Navy during the Cold War she was a Diesel / Electric submarine HMS Cavalier The Royal Navy’s last operational Second World War destroyer, HMS Cavalier was built in 1944 and served with the Home Fleet, in the Western Approaches and with the British Pacific Fleet until 1946. Awarded the ‘Arctic 1945’ Battle Honour, Cavalier is now preserved as a memorial to those who lost their lives in destroyers during the Second World War. HMS Cavalier continued to have a distinguished post war naval career serving mainly in the Far East. She ended her naval service in 1972 at Chatham after winning the ‘Great Race’ in 1971 for the title ‘Fastest Ship in the Fleet’. Visiting HMS Cavalier today serves as a dramatic reminder of the rigours of life on board small ships of the Royal Navy. Her restoration has been made possible by the generous support of National Heritage Memorial Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund, Medway Council and a large number of individual and charitable trusts. http://www.chdt.org.uk/NetsiteCMS.php<br />
