but why everything around it seems okay?????
apart from the road itself, the surrounding image suggests a perfect join of the 2 imageries?

It has to do with perspective.

Take a classic picture of a road. (See attachment. Source unknown.)

Let's say that you and I are both standing on this road and that picture is what we see. we both know that the road is the same width 3 feet (or 1 m) in front of me as it is 1 mile (or 1.6 km) down the road. But 1 mile down the road looks a lot smaller in the picture. Now, let's say that we have a person take a picture looking towards us, and they stand one mile down the road. The road will appear to be wider where they are and smaller where we are. Now we have to put these two pictures together to make one picture. Because of perspective, they're not going to align correctly.

And that is what is happening above.

If you look at your hack and follof the line from the bay to NE you'll see all roads are mislayed untill next overlay. It happens so often when Google make a map in Hi-res.

I have a hack from Bournemouth in the UK, just take a look how bad it can be.

Here are some roads in Honduras that don't match up either.

Good explanation Veredus. But have a look at the coastline in the west. Its also not set together correctly.
And the perspective: Will the road on the picture in your example go wide or small when the photo is taken from the bird perspective? I dont think so. Also the pics in GE were taken from the bird perspective (exactly the satelite perspective ;) ).

My example was an exaggerated-angle example, but not everything is directly under the satellite. There will be perspectives and angles.

You´re right. There ARE small perspectives, but surely not such a distortion that makes a road almost disappear. :slant:
