@BradG7: There are definitively no more teams in the final then this 2 teams, so no more/other teams has the chance to win the Cup. :D

Italy's goal keeper is pretty amazing. I imagine that it will be hard for France to score in this game.

Italy wins 1-0.

I don't quite understand what you mean.
Maybe, "There are definitly only two teams in the final, which means that no other teams have a chance to win"???
If you mean that, no s***, I said that before the pre-lims started, not now ;)
I pick L'Italia, to say we tied the champ ;)

It's easy for us to point out mistakes, but I feel sorry for him, we should have compassion for Zidane! He is not a machine or a God, he is a human being, with emotions. Anything can happen to anyone, especially, when you're put under so much stress, watched by 1 billion people in your last day of your career, in a Final? A single moment of loss of mindfulleness can never delete all the years of hard work and greatness.

... watched by 1 billion people in your last day of your career...
And that's the point why I don't feel sorry about him. Zidane did things like this already before, he can't control himself. He is a profi with many years of experiences. A situation like this yesterday must not happen!
He is also an idol for many young kids, some of them watched that yesterday. Another reason why this rude attack must not be tolerated.

Compassion for Zidane? No way...

Well, he is a human being and human beings are prone to such things. He is a tallented footballer, one of the best. This is how people should remember him.

Yes you're right but as he is a tallented footballer at the end of his carreer and in a world cup final, he did not have to act like this... each thing in its time

I am no particular fan of France or Zidane, my favourites are Brazil and England, and my idol was Beckham when I was younger. Yes, what he did was not good. But I stand by Zizou, sometimes it happens, you lose your mind. I support him. It's understandable that people will talk and discuss this on and on for some time, but eventually it'll pass.

I hope it'll pass for him and us, cause in France every time you watch the news (paper & TV), they can't stop talking about Zidane. Everybody wants to know what the Italian guys told Him...

Yes, but with Zidane is not the first time and because of this is totally unaccettable from a wonderful player as he is (and no one can even think that he is not one of the best player in the history of football).

I just would like to remember that during a semifinals of a Championship game he did something similar, getting a red card (and this helped to have his team kicked out from the tournament), with a 4 games stop. During the 1998 world cup he literally walked on the body of another player and for this he got another red and 2 games stop.

When during the european cup in 2004 Totti spitted on a Danish Player (Poulsen), I didn't want even to know why he did that... I said what I said now for Zidane. A Champion should never react that way, even if he is right.

That's it. I didn't stand for Totti, I do not stand for Zidane.

Kazuma

Well stefan, coming from America, where we have professional athletes do dumbv things every day, I would say we can't cut him slack. Remember he is a role model for many young Europeans and he shouldn't do something like that on Live INTERNATIONAL television. A person like him should never do that, we suspend players for at least 2 weeks of play in America for a stunt like that. We also fine them at least $250,000 Amreican.

You got the point... he is a model . There are so many kids that starts playing football (for you is soccer ;) ) and that says "i wanna be like him". Totti, Maradona... Zidane. The final game of this wolrd cup was broadcasted all over the world with a huge number of kids watching it... what do you think they have said when Zidane hit Materazzi with his head? "It's a human being..."? I don't think so. And the same happened when Totti spitted on Poulsen.

Brad, by the way... $250.000 for Zidane are nothing :)

To our players, it's nothing either, a basketball player just signed a contract for $14.35M per year, not including the bonus
But it's a message to people that they are being repremanded ;)

Yes, a message...

But FIFA didn't consider providing a message and even with that horrible action, they rewarded Zidane as the best player of the World Championship. And this is probably the worst message that this event could provide.

I am just glad that Italy won altogether. Even though I am an American, I knew from the beginning that Team USA really didn't have much of a chance against teams like Italy, Germany, Brazil, Portugal, France, etc... so I rooted for Italy because I'm an Italian-American and boy am I glad they won. It's too bad that the 2006 FIFA World Cup is going to be remembered mostly for the Zidane inncident and not mostly for Team Italy's success.
VIVA ITALIA!!

Well, I agree about how this cup will be remembered, although it's pretty common that an episode do [/I]ruin[/I] (I don't know if you remember the 1986 the Maradona "mano de Dios" (God's hand)...

Before the beginning of the cup, due to all the bad things that were happening in the italian soccer, I wasn't confident at all, plus the coach had a bad history when he coached my team because his behavior wasn't professional at that time. I had to reconsider that. What made this team a winning team has been the ability of the coach to create a strong team that worked all together.

Cute one... I have seen huge amount of jokes around that event...

Anyway, is not just Materazzi that thanks Zidane... and we also thanks Treze-pole and France coach... his huge mistakes helped us to win ;)
