I found a UFO on a little mountain in my hometown!

I have lived here my whole life, and I've never seen anything on this mountain..

You can check airphotos at the official hompage of the city here:

That's quite interesting, it even seems to have a shadow. I don't know about a UFO but it seems to be airborne, so who knows?

It doesn't look like a UFO to me... I'm sure there's a logical explanation for this... or is there...

That has to be a radio/radar tower, probably associated with the nearby airfield.

PS - who gave this a five-star rating??

it seems to be see-through (like a white bycicle wheel)
it even seems to have spokes

A latticework tower, seen from overhead, can exhibit what look like spokes.

Well.. why have I never seen something like that there then?

How close were you able to get? Looks pretty inaccessible...

I've been there ca 20 times.

It's actually a pretty popular hill to jog/walk up to

Looks like some kind of VOR airport facility

(But if Wimmy can't see it...?)

Finally a good evidence of aliens on our planet. It's a good UFO, you can see that almost all of it is transparent - true it's like a bicycle wheel - with the cabin (2m. diametre) in the centre and spokes which support the outer ring. The whole machine thus is made pretty light and able to fly. The aliens seem to be in awe by the Nowegian fyords and this is why they are in this region. Hope to see more UFOs like this, but great find!

Here's a piece of your 'Kart over Kristiansund' link:
http://tomba.free.fr/Kristiansund.JPG
I see at least four circles in the same place as your placemark.
Given that we know nothing about the dates of the GE and Kart over Kristiansund views, what have we here?
1. A UFO squadron on the ground?
2. A man-made object that's grown from one circle in the GE view to four circles in the Kart over Kristiansund view?
And note that, immediately to the NE/E of your UFO, there are what appear to be man-made tracks.

Now my last post was intended as a joke.. This is probably the VOR that Martin told us about. If you rotate it you can probably notice that the thing in the centre is a vertical post, clamped to the ground, just like the one in the wiki pictures. Wimmy, can you go one more time so that we can be sure it's not a UFO? ;) Otherwise my first post counts.

I have posted it at the GE community to see if anyone can answer it.

Since Wimmy lives in the Land of the Midnight Sun there's a fair chance we'll get his report in the morning...

Ah! Since it's so low to the ground Wimmy might well have missed it on his jogs in the hills.

I found a link wher you can see where they are where you live:

http://worldaerodata.com/

Just click on NAVAIDS and all countries appear and you can enter the coordinates into your GE.

I made a hack for my country, Denmark. Maybe you make one for your country, it could be interesting to see where they are located.

Yes it is, Look for KVERNBERGET. It's the airport you have to look for either the airport or a place at the airport.

Here is Kristiansund:

The dish isn't at the same angle as the "UFO" but, does the shadow look familiar?

I watched them build this sucker. It's an antenna for aircraft navigation.

I believe you wanted this?

I am convinced it is none of the above. I think it could be a stationary SAM installation.

IamOverHere
08-24-2006, 04:38 AM
No, but what would make you think SAM installation? They use radar. I doubt hat is not a radar dish. The dish would usually be solid to pick up a full image that and it is pretty large. My guess is either for radio transmissions or a radio telescope.

The "thing" in Kristiansund is a VOR-DME navigation aid. If you enter this coordinate you will end on the spot on BradG7's map.

63° 07' 05.28" N 7° 48' 37.94" E

And if you enter VOR-DME in your google and go under picturesearch you'll see the different kinds there are. :)

I believe this is incorrect, because what we are seeing is more transparent in the center while this is more opaque.

Not sure if I am reading those coordinates right but I think that would put the weather station towards the other end of the runway according to that sight. 63-07N 007-50E 62M

This is indeed a VOR-DME with ID "KVB (http://worldaerodata.com/wad.cgi?nav=KVERNBERGET&nav_id=KVB&nav_type=4)" (look at the coordinates).
It belongs to the airport ENKB (http://worldaerodata.com/wad.cgi?id=NO24241&sch=ENKB).
