I followed to that website, http://www.googleearthhacks.com/forums/faq.php?, but there is no information on how to unpack or unzip a .KMZ file. It seems to be some sort of compression file, but I can't find a software that will "unzip" it.

The program used to open .KMZ (which is compressed, or zipped .KML) is Google Earth.

KML (Keyhole Markup Language) is very similar to XML in syntax and structure. The links provided above will give you plenty of information on KML. You can view any KML file with a text editor.

Change the extension from KMZ to ZIP and unzip it.
