Good news lads, I joined the soccer team at my high school. Only problem is I don't know how to play well. What I need is some rules that usually apply to soccer(penalties), and what my position does. I play "markback" is what coach says, but I gaurd the forwards, so help is wanted. ;)

I think you are playing centreback to all the english football fans out there. Basically don't handle the ball if its in you goal area, and don't slide tackle them. Soccer is miles different to Rugby/Aussie Rules/American Football. The basic rules can be found at :

wow!!! things must be different in michigan than the east coast.
i can't imagine any high school around here taking a player who had never played before.
i've never heard of a markerback but i think the guy above me is right. your is manager probably slotting you in a CB role and will have you tightly mark opposing team's centre forwards.
my guess is you've got some decent athletic ability and the coach wants to utiliize it any way he can.
good luck with the season.

I think my coach is looking to capitalize on my speed and strength(and quick feet), I got a yellow card in our first game for laying a kid out flat on his back. Trash talking doens't make me happy, anyways. Thanks to stefan and you guys, I pretty much just need expierence to be a great player
