Welcome to the forum. If youturn on the Google Earth Community layer a lot of things have been identified already by others. But still a good spot on your part.
Is it really named Shamu?

Is there any meaning for the word SHAMU?

Well, there's two answers to that. One such is that 'Shamu' is a name given to orcas performing at SeaWorld in San Diego. Many orcas have had that name over the decades. I'm assuming that you probably already know this, though. :)
'Shamu', pronounced 'sham-oo' ('oo' as in 'loop') is an Inuit word, which I have seen reported by unofficial sources as 'hero' or 'protector'. I have to put that disclaimer because I've not seen a proper, official language source which holds up that claim.

Thanks Munden for the info.
Actually I was a little curious because Samuel, the prophet is named as Shamuvel and is fondly called as Shamu in my language, Marathi, ( one of the hundreds of languages in India )

The whale at Sea World in Orlando is also called Shamu, or was many years ago when I was there. It must be a family name, like the Wallenda family in the circus world.

Thanks Jan15 for the info and for several posts on vastly different topics.
Welcome to GEH ...
I suppose Jan15 is your birthdate?

I suppose Jan15 is your birthdate?Yes, very good. Most people assume I'm the 15th person named Jan to join the forum. They also tend to assume incorrectly that I'm a woman, though I think of Jan as being equally common a name for men and women. The first forum I joined, many years ago, suggested using an ID that doesn't contain one's name, "such as your birthdate".
Your city must be very picturesque. From the satellite it appears to be all lakes and hills, like another well-known IT center - Seattle, Washington, home of Microsoft.
Hi.
Im in zimbabwe. Shamu is a common surname in the manicaland area of the country, This province borders on mozambique. (Prior to 15 some-thing-orother.... when vasco da gama landed and claimed moz for portugal )
the area was arabic. the trade was gold, ivory and slaves..
As with quite a few surnames from this area, I think its arabic in origin, and may have been abreviated.
