On 27th Nov India carried out a test in which it used homegrown missile technology to intercept another missile. This is a relatively new technology being developed by a handful of countries.
Scientists used India's surface-to-surface Prithvi II missile to target another Prithvi II missile. The target missile took off from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur-on-sea, near Balasore and the interceptor took off 60 seconds later from the Wheeler Island, about 70 km away. It intercepted the target mid-flight and destroyed it over the Bay of Bengal.
Both the Test Ranges are shown in these placemarks.
