Outwardly you see only the crater of volcano.. so both are ok.

Welcome to GEH both of you.. nice find indeed.

Yes this is a meteor crater. Road to the northwest so indicates.

I did not realize that time that Antaya refers to meteor craters. I was thinking only of Volcanic Crater based on Adri's post.

Yes, It is Meteoric in nature.

the crater mentioned in this post is barringer crater. Here is some information: The Meteor Crater, sometimes known as the Barringer Crater and formerly as the Canyon Diablo crater, is a famous impact crater, located about 35 miles (55 km) east of Flagstaff, near Winslow in the northern Arizona desert (USA). The crater is somewhat misnamed, as it was actually excavated by a meteorite, not a meteor.

Hi - I'm new in here.

I found a strange row of objects in Afghanistan.
After looking at it a bit I conclude this must be
bombcraters from a recent airstrike, or?

And:
There is a little airport to the west of this craters.
Looks to me like there are growing some plants on the
roof of 2 buildings.

Or what could that be?

That appears to be stacked white material .. ( narco material? popey? ). The whole field is covered with white hay(?).

Is it a airport? .. it is about 2 Kms long and has rough surface.

And that blue facility... all roads lead to it.

By the way this area of about 15KMsX15Kms is in high resolution.. must be some strategic area.

Perhaps someone who was in Afghanistan can tell more.

to be honest to me it looks like the colour is incorrect on the building and the 'hill' to the NE and although it is not in the old 'super' def . it looks like it is an airport (or at least was!) as the 'runway' strip is 1.3 miles long although it would be a small aircraft airport (biggen hill is 1.1 mile long as is light aircraft) which could explain the small nature of it.

Hi klicky

I think your placemarker shows a seismic survey for oil and gas, but I am not sure.

A geologist fires off an explosive device near Hanmer Springs, in Canterbury. The shock waves bounce off underground rock layers and back towards the surface, where they are recorded by sensitive instruments. The data gathered is used to draw maps of the underground structures. This helps geologists pinpoint areas where oil and gas might be trapped.

Almost certainly not a bomb run.
The cratering is too small and too close together. The geology testing seems a fair guess.
The buildings with the "false" blue roof were part of the abandoned runway/airstrip. The desert is reclaiming the buildings, look at those dunes downwind of the buildings.

Hello:giverose:

My guess with the seismic survey is wrong. The GEC-member redunzl said that it is a water management system called qanat.

It is also called called Fogarra, Qanat, Quanat, Kanat or Karis. These are enought key words to find pictures that speak on this theory.

On this webpage Fogarra-watering (http://www.geolinde.musin.de/afrika/html/t_afrfoggara.htm) there is an interesting photo and some informations (german).

When digging the vertical pits to the water guidance, the excavation material is placesd around the pits. Thus a typical straight-line chain of small hills develops in the landscape.

The heading of this picture reads:Aerial photo of a Quanat, recognize the bypass around a collapsed stage.

well, I'm sure redunzl is right.

Wow - thanks Felippo!
This clearly makes sense in that kind of area.
Well - in the end this is no craters an unforunately
missplaced in this thread. Sry ;)
