This is a discussion thread for the following file:

Wrong Way Plane

This plane doesn't look like it's taking off (no shadow), nor does it look like it's taxiing (no place to taxi to..its a deadend). But the plane is facing NW, in the opposite direction the arrows are facing (SE). What IS this plane doing?

since it is a small airport, there is no taxi way all along next to the runway, in this case planes usually taxiing on the runway itself, then turn around and take off. you can see how they actually made wider the end of the runway, make the turn easier. in this case our plane has just reached the point when it needs to make the full turn

Hi wgabi, welcome to our community.
You are right, it's normal with this procedure at many airports, especially small airports.

In this case you can see the arrows pointing in take off and landing direction.
So for smaller airports with landings by bigger planes they make this kind of turning points. You can see the same at Grey Stone, Ocala, Florida where John Travolta lives.

In India the aircrafts have to turn around like this at all airports.
