The Southern African Large Telescope Project ( SALT ) is a 9-m class southern hemisphere twin of the Hobby-Eberly Telescope (HET) in Texas, US, that was built at the Sutherland observing station of the South African Astronomical Observatory.
On Friday, 02 September, 2005 - After 5 years of construction, the Southern African Large Telescope went online and captured its first images.
