Thread: Can't open most files on this site

  1. #1

Default Can't open most files on this site

I been getting this with the lastest version of Google Earth

    Open File c:\"DOCUME~1\RANDAL~1\LOCALS\temp\whatever.kmz" failed:

File has missing or bad root element.

I can open files that have url links that say click here to download but the ones with download file underlines are the one with the issue.

They download fine but can't open them.

I'm aware of the problem and I'm working on it right now. I'll post an update when I have one.

Somehow the entire folder holding the files got deleted. I've not touched it in a while, so I can only assume it was either a major server hiccup or a hack.

Regardless, it's being restored from backup by our host as we speak. Thanks for your patience.

Things should be good to go. We lost the latest 9 files that didn't make it on the backup tape, so that's not too bad. They've now been "denied" in the hopes that they'll be re-uploaded by their authors.

I've also shuffled a few things around, so please let me know if you have any problems uploading files or anything.

Thanks, and sorry for the problems.

I've found a number of my files causing the same error message, e.g. the Auschwitz-Overlay and all my Pearl Harbor overlays. I also found some of McMasters files destroyed.
    Any way to fix it?

Software is like entropy. It is difficult to grasp, weighs nothing, and obeys the second law of thermodynamics; i.e., it always increases.

The only way is to reupload them. We recovered all that we could from the backup. If there are still some missing, there's nothing I can do. I'm very sorry...
