Octagon House discussion

Built in 1856, the Edward Elderkin residence is a two-story structure with porch on three sides, and is constructed of brick. The architecural style was popular circa 1845-1860, and is characterized by eight sides and, often, a cupola on the roof, such as on the Elderkin House. This residence is regarded as "...among the best surviving examples of the style..." and achieved recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
