Default Download doesn't seem to work

I've gone through the download process twice. Everything seems to happen normally but when it is completed, the Google Earth program is not among the programs on my computer nor is there an icon for it on my desktop. There is a Chrome browser icon, but I normally use IE. I've downloaded Google Earth on other computers and never encountered this problem before. Any help that anyone can provide will be appreciated.

Does the Chrome browser icon actually open up Chrome?
I have an existential map; it has 'you are here' written all over it.

I am having the same issue. When I click on the Download button, everything seems to work normally. Then I get a message, " Thank you for downloading Google Earth." But I cannot find it anywhere on my computer. I've never had this problem before. When I click on the tutorial, it says I have not installed the required plug in. Can anyone help me with this problem? I am not very tech savvy, and it's driving me nuts. Thanks in advance.

Okay, I finally got it to install version 5.0 instead of 5.1...**** Vista. Am I missing much by having the older version?
