Default Google Earth keeps trying to install

    To the list:

I recently downloaded Google earth and uninstalled it. However upon uninstall I kept getting a pop up that kept trying to install Google earth. I have deleted all traces og it from my system including the registry. No luck.

I then took the drastic step of reformatting my computer using a DOD 7 pass wipe. That's right,,,7 passes.

I reinstalled XP and guess what, even after 7 passes on a total format, the pop up that keeps trying to reinstall Google earth is there. If this is some sort of virus or malware, it has to be the stubbornest creature ever.

Has anyone else dealt with this problem and have an answer?

That shouldn't be possible. Once you format a drive, it's empty and there's nothing there. Are you reinstalling XP from a ghost backup?

I agree with Appletom. Whatever you did, it wasn't an actual reformat of your harddrive. Or if it was, you didn't follow it up with a clean install.
I have an existential map; it has 'you are here' written all over it.
