    Default Cannot start GE

Suddenly GE is crashing when starting. Gives this error message:
    AppName: googleearth.exe AppVer: 5.2.1.1588 ModName: msvcr80.dll

Tried a System Restore to yesterday (when it was working fine) but still have the crash.

Have also posted in the GE Help Forum, but anyone here have any suggestions please?

I've re-installed GE from scratch. The crash is erratic. It occurs on about 50% of startups, not every time, which makes it even more weird. Clearly something to do with msvcr80.dll but after much googling still haven't found a relevant solution.

Still not sure if it's relevant, but one thing I tried from an old XP forum thread about a msvcr80.dll problem was to use this command in XP's Run box:

    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Google\Google Earth\client\msvcr80.dll"

which was supposed to 're-register' the DLL. But it failed with these messages:

Very naive Q: Could this be a problem in your dropbox?

    Dropbox un-install - recheck GE - re-install dropbox

    Just a thought

Sorry, just saw that dropbox was your image source and not source of the problem.

Tom: Well, I've got through another day or so and so far have not had a crash!
