retrieving coordinates from KMZ file
a client has sent us a KMZ file indicating the locations of about 50 items. we can certainly view these in GE, but need to create a georeferenced AutoCAD drawing of these items for use in our engineering design. is there a way to import KMZ files into ACAD Civil 3D, or simply retrieve a CSV or excel file of the coordinates of the items described in the KMZ? otherwise, we'll have to view properties of each item, jot down the coordinates, and enter into AutoCAD. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
Pulling coordinates from KMZ files
I wrote a Python tool that pulls the coordinates out of KMZ files and drops them in a column into a text file. The text file can then be opened in Excel. In addition, it can also convert the coordinates into a projection for 2D conversion, calculates the distance between the points and puts them into an AutoCAD script. It can go from KMZ to script file in one mouse click. I use it for long-haul fiber optic cable mapping. Sounds like you just need the first part - KMZ to text.
