Post The Story of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant

Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KNPP) is a nuclear power station under construction in Koodankulam in the Tirunelveli district of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Construction started March 2002 but completion was not achieved 11 years later. Its all because of the Anti-Nuclear Protests against KNPP, these were headed by Some western funded NGO's. I dont know what is the western interest in KNPP, but Govt. is intended to build it as it sees KNPP as an economical growth.

Even Supreme Court of India has given green signal to Kudankulam Nuclear plant. Here is what SC said:

The Supreme Court has cleared the decks for the commissioning of the Kudankulam nuclear plant. A bench of Justices K.S. Radhakrishnan and Dipak Misra, in concurring judgments, however, made it clear that the plant should not be made operational unless the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) and the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) gave their final clearances. Justice Misra said: “The AERB as the regulatory authority and the MoEF are obliged to perform their duty that safety measures are adequately taken before the plant commences its operation.”

SC stressed to take care of Safety and Security at KNPP. Even after SC verdict the protestors want to continue their protest and they are highlighting Fukushima disaster as an example.

When an eminent scientist and ex-president of India Mr. Kalam has certified the KNPP's by saying he was fully satisfied by the safety and security aspects of KNPP ( source ), why these are still worry about it? Are they really concerned to the safety or just doing it for money?

I read here that Kudankulam Nuclear power plant generatesalmost 2000MW of power and it answers the energy crisis of Southern part of India. The power will be divided to southern states - the home state Tamil Nadu will get 925MW, Karnatak 442MW, Kerala 266MW, Puducherry 67MW and remaining 15% unallocated power to be added to the central pool.

KNPP really helps India in resolving the power issues and also helps it in reaching 8% growth by 2015. Hope India will get more Nuke plants.

Thumbs up KNPP to generate power soon

The unit 1 at the Kudankulam nuclear power plant located in the Tirunelveli district, in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu has reached ‘critical’ condition.
As SC has given a go and Atomic Energy Regulatory board has approved KNPP, authorities have started working on KNPP unit 1. Authorities says KNPP will be commissioned by the end of August ( source ), so it means we will be soon getting power from KNPP, thats a good news for power starving Tamil Nadu as well as the remaining souther states.
