Parked IL-62 discussion
This is a discussion thread for the following file:
operated by former East German airline INTERFLUG, registered as DDR-SEC, parked in a field at Grossmachnow south of Berlin
Why is it parked in a field???
After the INTERFLUG fleet went out of operation in 1991, several planes have been transfered to museums, (smaller) airports and even private grounds to serve as a museum or just to attract people.
As far as I know, DDR-SEC has been dismounted and removed from this location in 2004.
The question is not why - but how.
As far as I remember from a TV show on German television I once saw, it was quite a feat to get it there. Apparently it was flown to and landed there by a very experienced pilot. In order to land it, the safety on the thrust reversers was disabled in order to allow the pilot to revese thrust in the air when passing over the last treetops before the grass field on which he landed. Trees, grass, short field, reversing in mid air - my respect!
