Question trying to convert kml to shapefile

I have been searching for any tool to convert kml files to ESRI shape files. So far, I have only found the following link. For me, this is actually a bit too complex as it requires installing various additional software just to read the code, etc.

Can anyone clue me into anything that is a bit more user friendly? Thanks in advance!

Feature Manipulation Engine (FME) reads and writes KML.

They have a 14 day trial. Make sure you use the proper datum conversions, or the stuff will be off.

    Google Earth is in NAD-27.

    Hope this helps.

My mind works better in sentences with spaces and long paragraphs loose me sometimes cause I need to picture what is going on at the same time I am reading.

Just a quick comment: Google Earth is in WGS84, not in NAD27.

    Default KML2Shapefile for MapWindow

The free MapWindow GIS has an extension (KML2Shapefile) for converting KML/KMZ to shapefiles.

    Default KML to shapefiles

Yes, there is a much simpler way to convert KML files to ESRI shapefiles.

    Just follow this link:

    Good luck!
