gunsgt1863, I found what you were talking about on a DoD site.

An aerial port bow view of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS NIMITZ (CVN-68) during an overhaul period at the Bremerton Naval Shipyard. The non-skid surface of the flight deck is being replaced.

So, yes there IS a section of the deck with non-skid paint. However, the GE image has artifacts which do show them to be objects, plus the section of the decks being worked on is different from the on in the DoD image.

These are tents, but I was wrong about the paint. There is non-skid paint back around the arrestor cable area.

    That fixes it Mundane.

    No Skid paint.

Now can this be the thing in another thread " Where's the runway? " started by Splosh in " Great things you've found "

Default I work on the Enterprise

Those are in fact wide plastic canopies erected over areas of the flight deck where regular maintenance is being performed, to protect the exposed machinery, and the workers, from the elements. In this case, the catapult systems are being worked on. Ships are meant to be at sea, but once there they undergo a tremendous amount of stress, and most of the time in port is spent fixing or maintaining most, if not all, of the ship's systems. If you look around, you'll find that alot of military ships have similar structures erected. I know this for a fact, because I am a sailor stationed onboard CVN-65, the USS Enterprise.
