    Default My Places

My Google Earth has been acting strangely lately and I was wondering, where should My Places be? what folder? right now, all my .kmz files are in My Pictures (no clue as to how they got there), and i was wondering where to move them.

I was looking for them as well, I felt they would be in the folder Google under program files, but I found them here: C:\Documents and Settings\irishbear\Application Data\Google\GoogleEarth. I am a newbe myself so I hope this is of some help.

My ENTIRE my places just vanished. Checked in the application folder and it shows: myplaces.broken-11-2-2007.kml
Then theres a backup but its from January 9th. Any way to recover the lost placemarks? Had like 30 I was working on..and a HUGE collection with over 3000 placemarks Ive been working on.

When reloading the broken file it gives the attached error..then gives me an empty folder under my places:

Don't you have a "myplaces.kml.tmp" file? This one's created every time you start GE. The old one got renamed in "myplaces.backup.kml".
So there are at least two backup files...!?

Well.. "Don't you have a "myplaces.kml.tmp" file? This one's created every time you start GE."
Here's the error after trying to open that.

Attached is also the Google Earth data folder..

You have to rename it to *.kml only extension.
But that file sizes shows that something went wrong.
Your backups only have 14kb while the last broken-file has 8MB!

GE opens "myplaces.kml" at startup and nothing else.
So try to rename the broken files properly and see what happens...

    Good luck

Start Google Earth -> File -> Open
to open to that other kml.
After closing GE it's included in your myplaces.kml

8MB worth of My Places? You might want to read this.
I have an existential map; it has 'you are here' written all over it.

Network links are okay, but I think SpiderX22 was working on quite a few collections of placemarks. And it would be a pain to have to juggle network links.

But this has brought an interesting question to my mind. I use a Mac for all my work, and I'm not sure where my back up "myplaces" are stored.....
