Here is the official "product comparison sheet" from Google.

I upgraded mine to plus so I could draw polygons and trace paths on the Earth. Check out that comparison sheet and let us know if you still have questions.

Can some one pick a obscure spot in the US and post images of the same spot with the different versions of google earth so I can get a idea of home much better quality each upgrade is.

Actually, they're all the same. All of the versions use the exact same satellite data. The differences have to do with being able to draw polygons, save movies, import data, hook up GPS units, etc. The visible images won't get any better with any upgrades.
