So, I see all these usernames, but know nothing about you people, or what you are interested in. So, what's everyone's favorite music? Feel free to post a link to like a youtube video or something...
I'll start off: I'm a dedicated fan of Electronic music (trance and techno in particular) and will listen to most of it (except maybe speedcore and some of the sillier subgenres). As an introduction to Electronic music, I really suggest this video: "A Quick Guide To The Sub-Genres Of Electronic Dance Music" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ebv_DPEB_WE Description: Confused about what is what in EDM (aka Electronica)? I can help! This video has samples for most of the major Subgenres of Electronic Music (focusing heavily on the varieties of Trance): Acid Trance Ambient Breaks Ambient (Chillout) Anthem Breaks Breakbeat (Breaks) Classic Trance Downbeat (Downtempo) Dream Trance Drum N Bass (DnB) Dutch Trance Electro (Electropop) Eurodance Euro-Trance (Pop Trance, Epic Trance) Freestyle (Dance) German Trance Goa Trance Happy Hardcore Hard House Hard Techno Hard Trance (Hard Dance) Hardcore Hardstyle House Ibiza Trance Jumpstyle Jungle Minimal Techno Neo-Trance Progressive Trance Psytrance (Psychedelic Trance) Tech Trance (Techno-Trance) Techno Trance Trancecore Tribal Uplifting Trance (Euphoric Trance, Anthem Trance)

I don't know that I have a favorite genre. There's just music out there and I like some of it.
These days I probably spend most of my time finding new melodic/operatic/viking metal. (in any combination) Andre Andersen, Nightwish, Dragonforce, Tır, Moonlyght, Lordi. One must include other rock bands like Green Day and Offspring. That being said I also have a lot of albums by: Mike Oldfield, Jean Michel Jarre, Yanni, Vangelis also: The Battlefield Band, The Chieftans, Enya, Lorenna McKennitt When possible, I like finding energetic, melodic dance music. I think my biggest musical taste is 'melodic' rather than some styles which are too repetitive for my taste. I'm thus very picky about the dance music I like. Yes, my musical taste is all over the map.

My musical interest started up with Deep Purple's "Made in Japan" at age of 12.
Followed by all the well known progressive oldtimers Black Sabbath, Led Zep, ELP, etc. And Pink Floyd of course! (preferably prior "Wall" area) Nowadays i'm more into what is called "World Music", Deep Forest, Air, Boozoo Bajou, Buddha Bar Samplers, Asian/Arabic Sounds... Lately Peter Green's "In the Skies" is running up and down again... Good taste all you fellow GEhackers! ![]() http://youtube.com/watch?v=aMwDb1ndOB8 |

@Munden
Mike Oldfield is awesome. Dragonforce is good too, but after a point they get so...repetitive. The others I've never heard..

Here's the top 30 or so bands from my WinAmp playlist in order of # of tracks, which is pretty good indicator of my favorite music. Little bit of everything.

I have a 4 GB micro SD card in my cell phone that I use as mp3 player. Allmost filled up with songs from mid 50th until today. over 700.
But only a few from todays aera. Music from today are mostly cover versions from the good old time. Not that much new worth it to listen to. as Forkboy say, Led Zeppelin. But also Uriah Heep, Black Sabbath and so on. That's music. My ring tone is Uriah Heeps Lady In Black. And by the way. july 16th. Alice Cooper is coming to my hometown, Sonderborg. Awesome. I got a ticket as soon as the sale was on. Jean Michel Jarre concerts I have been to 3 times. In Paris on the Champs Elysee, in Berlin and 3 weeks ago here in Aarhus wit his Oxygene concert. Just great. Last year it was Roger Waters (Pink Floyd) I went to and in june it's Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits). I loved Dire Straits, awesome sound.

I used to buy a lot CDs in the 1980s and 1990s. Few years ago, I started ripping them all to lossless FLAC files. I think I'm up to about 400 Gigabytes and still have more to rip when I get some more hard drive space. The one I'm really looking forward to is new Offspring album. They are probably my all time favorite band. Matt |

I use to be into country, but, then I my eyes were opened to rock. Now I mainly listen to your classic rock of the 60's and 70's some 80' s beggining of the 90's rock. I'm as well a big Led Zeppelin fan. can't post a favorite video off of youtube, just to hard to decide what is my favorite band of all time.

I just stumbled upon the awesomeness of podcasts. Sure, I've had itunes for ages, but I never realized that podcasts were free. So, I went and subscribed to Above and Beyond's "Trance Around the World" and Armin van Buuren's "A State of Trance," which legally gave me 4.5 hours of nonstop trance music. I'm excited for more now, and its great music too. =)
