How about a "net worth" column? I don't know if we want to let the cat out of the bag for troop levels, but some overal measure of a person's wealth -- not just the combined population of held cities -- might be worthwhile. In fact, what of just re-labeling the population column as such, and having a new column indicating a person's overall net worth? How that's calculated would change over time, but I think having the column -- and doing "what-if" play with the data on your own time -- might be just the ticket.

In some sense, the population would be a factor in the net worth column, I suppose. But as time passes, you might build in features which would make some cities liabilities to the occupiers (insurgents, economy devastated from war, etc.) rather than assets.
