Default Timbuktu already!

The name just lends itself to needing to be in the game. ;-)

Hey, I didn't notice -- is Damascus in yet?

I already requested that city I it's a few topics back.
I used GE's spelling of it so it would be easier for mickey to find cause it took me a while. Google Earth spells everything weird because they use the native spelling like Roma.

It's so small, though... For that matter, I couldn't find any two population quotes that were even similar. Any idea how many people are there?

Dang. Not even the wikipedia listed the pop. About.com sez:

Quote:
The population of Timbuktu in a 1940 census was estimated at approximately 5,000 people; in 1976, the population was 19,000; in 1987 (the latest estimate available), 32,000 people resided in the city.
Yeah, that IS small. Well, I guess it's not urgent. Perhaps it could be added sometime as a gesture of regret that such a place could go the way of all things with so little lamentation by the world's cosmopolitan classes. ;-)

Timbuktu (also spelled Tombouctou) used to be a great trading city because it lay on a river and was in between a salt mine and a diamond mine. Yes their is such a thing as a salt mine. So when other resources come it could be a useful city.
