Default Plane Crashed in Antarctica discussion

This is a discussion thread for the following file:

Plane Crashed in Antarctica

A plane crash in Antarctica. Well preserved because of the cold, as well as the inability to remove the debris.

This is a Il-14 from an Antartica mission of Russia. You can see 4 more airplanes - fuselages to the west.

Default Base possibly?

To the north you can also see some buildings and a railroad track of some kind. I am thinking this could have been a base at some point.

I saw that in my email this morning and meant to mention it. Congratulations (again) Spider for having one of your files selected as Placemark Of The Month by the Google team.

Apparently there was talk of reopening the base last year, didn't see whether it said they had or had not...

The station has been closed since 1989, and the plane has been there since it crashed in 1979.

When you say "it's not real"..what are you saying isn't real? The plane is definitely there... And it's not there because it's an airport?? Planes are meant to be at airports. Besides, it is at an abandoned airport..hence why the plane is still there...there's no one to move it.

Where do you see people? I see rocks.
