Default 3D model tracks discussion

This is a discussion thread for the following file:

3D model tracks

View some of the great 3D models of buildings, structures, sometimes almost entire cities present in the Google Earth 3D layer. This is a series of tracks designed to give you a tour in areas with many or particularly interesting models. Just mark the track of your choice and click on the 'play track' icon. Time has been spent to give you an easy and smooth view of great 3D buildings and structures which have been created and incorporated in the 3D layer of Google Earth. Be aware that 3D objects in GE may have a delay of display and consider to take the actual tour several times or pause/rewind it to wait to let the 3D objects and the rest of GE data to be cached and loaded to display. A placemark for each track has been supplied with a view to support best caching of 3D objects in the area. Upon that, clicking on the track itself will provide a view to hopefully cache (most of) the "other" part of the track.

After several hours of touring, creating the tracks in this collection, detecting 3D models, in all kind of places in Google Earth, I dedicate, these current and most likely ever evolving tracks, as a tribute to all those who contributed and continue to do so, to the 3D models in the GE layer. These tracks can only give a superficial picture, and never a sufficiently covered view, of the hard and dedicated work provided through the construction, design, research and model making of buildings or structures, large or small, detailed or superficial. Thank you all, you model builders!

Take this/those track(s) as an inspiration to look further into the area. Recommended to be viewed as a 'Play track' in Google Earth with the 3D and terrain layer enabled and a viewing angle of maximum (80 degrees). To ajust viewing angle, choose menu 'Tools', 'Options', Click the tab 'Touring' and change the 'Camera Tilt Angle' to 80 degrees. The default is 45 degrees. To play a specific track, mark the 'three dot icon' track, press the 'Play tour' option and enjoy the flyover of the area. Tour and track creator: Tom Kjeldsen, created may 2009.

44 areas currently covered in this Google Earth 3D model spotting tour: "Astana, Kazakhstan" - "Munich, Germany" - "Washington D.C., USA" - "Mexico City, Mexico" - "Angkor Wat temple, Cambodia" - "Guangzhou (Canton), China" - "Jakarta, Indonesia" - "Miami, USA" - "Lucerne, Switzerland" - "Leaning Tower of Pisa, Italy" - "Christchurch, New Zealand" - "Chichen Itza, Yucatán, Mexico" - "Prague, Czech Republic" - "Potala Palace, Lhasa, Tibet" - "Macau, China" - "Antwerp, Belgium" - "Hong Kong, China" - "Cairo/Giza, Egypt" - "Istanbul, Turkey" - "Valparaiso, Chile" - "Tokyo, Japan" - "Auckland, New Zealand" - "Seoul, South Korea" - "Las Vegas, USA" - "Shanghai, China" - "Barcelona, Spain" - "Los Angeles, USA" - "Taj Mahal, Agra, India" - "Athens, Greece" - "Taipei, Taiwan" - "Paris, France" - "Toronto, Canada" - "Moscow, Russia" - "Dubai, UAE" - "Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia" - "Chicago, USA" - "Berlin, Germany" - "Singapore" - "Rio de Janeiro, Brazil" - "Rome, Italy" - "London, England" - "Sydney, Australia" - "San Francisco, USA" - "New York, USA".

Really sorry about the late file approval! I completely forgot about approving files, and then I kept having problems with the website no longer loading.

Regardless, this is a GREAT file. I absolutely love it, and it's a great way to introduce Google Earth to beginners. I now have it saved in my places, something I rarely do with files these days.

Thank you and could you, by the way, update the description, both in this discussion thread, here above, and on the file page with this, where a spelling error is corrected. . Areas covered is by the way expanded since the first submission .

Thanks

Descriptions replaced as requested. Was it OK to fix the other two misspelled words?

Thank you, Appletom, very very much. This must be a special service of this forum to offer spontaneous spelling check of contributions. This is great, as a "second hand (language) english" writer, I truely appreciate anyone that point out any misspelling or wording which might confuse the intent of any contribution (thread or file) I may bring.

Now I just have to figure out which two words it was...

It's a special service only available for wormhole travelers.

This I got to remember; not to make my choise smoothe but to do my smooth choice. Thanks!

How does one go about applying? Can it be done online, or must I do it the old-fashioned way using a tree product? Do I get a discount if I'm a Certified Microsoft Wormhole Specialist?

Well, nothing wrong really with spelling it "smoothe", it just means smooth with an extra kick in a suavé sort of way.

A dead tree application is preferred, I will send you a link to the PDF file this weekend.

Absolutely. Please post a copy of your certification here in this thread.

I'm sure you aren't the first person (from this galaxy at least) to call Mr. Dooley "suavé".

Do you prefer a particular breed of tree?

Due to the enormous amount of HTML code involved, I have posted it on my own site. You can find it here.

Definitely an A+ for the pictures, to say the least.

Preferably something on the endangered list from deep in the Amazon Rain Forest.

That will do for now, but at some point we will need to see a copy with the MSWHU logo on it.

I took a look at the Los Angeles tour and the Las Vegas tour. Very nice indeed. I gave this a 5 out of 5 rating.

After touring for a (few) weeks I feel like saying thanks to the model builders in GE that made this tour and tracks possible.

Could you, a moderator, (again) update the description, both in this discussion thread, here above, and on the file page with this.

I hope any spelling errors "automatically" is corrected. or pm'ed, before update
