Koblenz bomb strike, 19.09.1944

On 19.09.1944 at 15:03 119 B17 of 447th Bomb Group (mission: #146) dropped 244,3 tons of bombs on the marschalling yard Koblenz-Mosel and the Rhine bridges. A railroad AA-gun was also destroyed. The air raid caused 144 deads and 133 injured people.

About 40 years later a plaque was installed in the city to commemorate the victims of the bomb war.

Translation:

1944: between April and end of war in 1945 3772 airplanes dropped during 40 air raids 10,000 t of bombs on Koblenz. On 06.11. 87% of its centre are destroyed. 2,000,000 cubicmeters of debris are covering the city. 15,000 of 25,000 dwellings are devasted. 1,000 deads are lost.

1984: Koblenz counts 115,000 citizens in 50,000 dwellings. The city came back bigger and more significant.
