Default New Orleans - Hurricane Katrina weather satellite overlay discussion

This is a discussion thread for the following file:

New Orleans - Hurricane Katrina weather satellite overlay

A weather satellite overlay that covers the Gulf of Mexico, as well as parts of the southern US. In particular, it gives you a good look at Hurricane Katrina.

Note: This file was originally created by AppleTom.

Default This is really great

I am glad that people take the time to do this stuff. Google Earth Hacks is an awesome forum.

I have added a few local city placemarkers to the file.

It is updated every thirty minutes by NOAA, and every thirty minutes GEarth on your computer goes out to see if there is an updated photo. At the bottom right of the overlay you will see the time stamp.

I just saw the moderator on the "ARD-brennpunkt" using Google Earth live on Air showing the TV viewers the Downtown and the Superdome.

High Tech TV, isn't it ?

I guess the real-time-updates were useful prior to the hurricane strike and while the hurricane was over New Orleans. But now it is just normal cloud cover. Did anyone keep some of the older, more dramatic images of the hurricane?
