This is a discussion thread for the following file:
Strange Towers What are these strange looking towers just north of Pittsburgh? They look to maybe just be elevation glitches.

Any clue what these are? I was looking at the Edgar Thomson Steel Works placemark when I tilted down to try to get a better angle. Way off in the distance I saw a lone mountain (from that far away it looked more triangular) and went to check it out. Strange.

I'm sure it's just an error...missing or corrupted topo data.

I found several more of these spires just north of Lake Norman, in North Carolina about a year ago. My brother said they may be large electrical towers that he thinks he'd seen there. I just joined this website, so I was interested in seeing what others had seen north of Pittsburgh. Pretty weird stuff.
