All I see is a white globe with a dark blue circle at the north pole and a line at 180 degrees

no, all I see is a white globe, brightness depending on the opacity. Changed a few settings, turned AF off and on, OpenGL and DirectX, detail area, even restarted computer, all I see is the globe. I checked the link and fiddled with the settings, nothing works. Pity, I love Earth at night, used to have it as my background.

Have you downloaded the file provided in the first post here or in araTs post #6?
The first doesn't work anymore, the second works....

Excellent job, I really love it!
araT, did you do this nice piece of work? I'm asking because I'm wondering if the higher resolution pictures can be used for Google Earth, too. You know, it would be soooo nice to combine the full power of Google earth with the full power of the earth by night pictures. The highest resolution of the earth by night pics I downloaded somewhere is 16384x8192 (a tiff file, size is a bit more than 40 MB). Would it be possible to use that baby or is it too much work? Sorry for my ignorance, but I assume you originally started with such a picture and probably applied some kind of transformation to get whatever google earth needs for input. In case you are interested: copyright should be no problem IMHO, the file(s) are publicly available for download. I don't think there were any restrictions. |

Question araT, their are a couple of other files that would not mind setting as either screen saver or start page. How do I go about saving any of these files on my system rather than as a kml for google earth?
