The star that you see on the pavement of the taxiway at the airport is a compass rose. They are painted at most airports so that mechanics can take the airplane to a known point on the airport and perform a "compass swing." Because of electrical interference and metal materials used in aircraft, the compass doesn't always line up exactly where it should. A compass correction card must be displayed on the compass and usually reads something like "to steer 090 degrees turn to 092 degrees" or something like that. Good eye. Here's another at an airport I used to fly into.
40°16'52.76"N 83° 6'48.22"W |
