Default Artic icecap?

Please excuse my poor geography, but I always thought there was an Artic polar ice cap.

Is there an explaination for why there is none on Google Earth?

There is pack ice throughout most of the year, but this melts seasonally. If you were to visit the north pole, there's a good chance you would be underwater.
