Default Strange Sight - Greenland discussion

This is a discussion thread for the following file:

Strange Sight - Greenland

Most likely a map error, but it's huge: approx. 54 miles.

Also, it's yellowish like a fire, but fires don't survive long in Greenland. Also, when you zoom in it gets weirder.

Not a map error at all. It's a Hi-Res of the icecap and it looks like this at sunset and sunrise. I know it because I have lived in Greenland for 5 years and have flewn over the ice several times. It looks great with these colours.

If you zoom in you can see the scars of the icecap. You can see it even better if you go 217 miles to the nortwest.

To me it looks clearly like an image error.

Take a look with a wider view.

You can clearly see that the image consists of a mosaic of several images having varying brightnrsses ( radiometric values ). One of the image which had been overlaid may be having a seasonal reflectance causing the yellow/orange imbalance.

One can see one more mosaicing mismatch a little down south resulting in a dark band.

At lattitudes nearer to 70/80 degrees the trignometric functions start mismatches when you approach from two directions and so a little mismatch is in evitable.

However one thing I have not understood... Digital globe image boundries have not been shown for this area for widere swaths. For narrow swath the image acquisition details are visible twrds futther Noth.
