This is a discussion thread for the following file:
News around the World This network link pulls the latest news from around the world and places it on the map! Each item is shown as a placemark which includes a link to Google News listing news reports from hundreds of publications. At this time, news reports will be shown from the previous week.

That is extremely cool. How do you determine the locations to associate with the particular news stories?

Thanks! Just a little detective work at the moment. Algorithms or geotagging in the future!

Btw, very nice and original site you made, ItsRightHere. You should put your kmz file somewhere on your site. Also, your kmz seemingly locates the events better than the file I posted earlier, excellent work!

Thanks for the props.
Expansion will happen slowly. I have a wish list for Google Earth that limits the usefulness of this at the moment. Basically, the MyPlaces folder can get way too cluttered. A little management power over that would be nice. Also, I'm watching the capabilites of my server. Seems to be doing well. But a slashdot would cost me too much $. You know.? |

This is very cool - I understand the constraints you are under. It would probably be more of a draw for people if (when google advances its capabilities) you can seperate the news articles into continents. So then people can reduce the amount of news articles that they have to sift thru.
I find this to be fantastic, but I know there are people who would rather focus on their home continent. This is more of a marketing suggestion - Take it for what its worth. Good Job!!! jay_babin |
