Default Three official GEH network links released!

GoogleEarthHacks.com has released it's first three Network Link files for you to use in your copy of Google Earth.

The first one is our main network link. Every time you stop moving the camera, this file will load the nearest places on your map that we have on the site. There are over 2000 locations that it will show, so most places on the globe will have some GEH placemarks! (more info)

The next one is our "newest files" network link. This file will show you the newest 100 files that we have on the site. It will update the list automatically every 15 minutes so you'll always have the latest information. (more info)

The last one is our "most popular files" network link. This file will show you the most popular 100 files on the site, based on the number of times they've been downloaded. It will update automatically once a day. (more info)

We hope you enjoy these new additions to the site!

Oh yeah, all files are totally cool. I sent them to 'My Places' where actually only three files were allowed to be. But these have to be there.

Very good job!

All three files have just been updated. They now show a the thumbnail image of what the item is (rather than the GEH globe), and it shows the image in the item description as well.

As a result of the extra work that this requires, the scripts now only show a maximum of 50 items, instead of 100. I think the trade-off is well worth it.

The links kick ***, but i.m.h.o. showing thumbs instead of an icons don't work for me. I would prefer the icons as the thumbs are hard to recognize on the almost identical background and irritate me.
I would vote for icons....

Anyway... awesome job.

Maybe icons on the map, but then thumbs in the description (pop-up box)?

The overlay items should be disabled, because you get the landmark they point to, without getting the image overlayed

I've tried to catch and disable all of them, but a few have slipped through. I'm still working on it...

Doesn't this make you #3 site member, then?
