For the life of me, I cannot get Google Earth to recognize my GPS device.
It only seems to want a Garmin or a Magellin. I have: GlobalSat BT-338 A rather new type using SiRF III I know it's connected to my PC on COM port 15 (via Bluetooth adaptor). The PC can see it as I have other GPS software that works great with the device. But I'd love to see what I can do with GPS and Google Earth combined. Any ideas, help or experiences with this? Gervin,
The Google Earth Home site http://earth.google.com/ states that you must use Google Earth Plus to use the GPS feature and that they have "verified support for Magellan and Garmin devices only". Not much help, I know, but maybe we will see more support in the future. |

Assuming you have Google Earth plus.
Google Earth sez that you need to use NMEA1803 protocol to connect. The BT338 AFAIK uses SIRFIII as its default. Using the SIRF Demo software on your PC you can switch the BT338's protocol to NMEA. Try connecting using this mode. If this works do let me know. I too own a BT-338 and am about to try this feature. Before splurging 40USD on this , I'd like to know for sure it works. I live in India and GPS maps are non-existent, so am trying everything to test my BT338. Good luck. |

I have the new version of that receiver (I think). I just dropped the 20$ for GE Plus and can report that it doesn't work--evidently the features are primarily to download stored routes and waypoints from the device (and the simple SiRF III receiver doesn't really handle those). Ah well, GE Plus is still nice and cheap enough.

Hi everyone,
if ur pc recognize (BT)gps device but ur nav prog or (GE) does not then try this; use (BT) manager to interface (GPS device+pc) check (custom mode) not (express mode) uncheck (use default com port) >>>disregard the warning and choose small digit com port No like (1,2,3 or 4) good luck |
