The Madison fire department is investigating a massive fire on the city's east side.
Crews responded to the fire around 2:30 Friday morning at the Apex building and the Historic Chicago and Northwestern Round House. That's on the 1700 block of Commercial Avenue.
Firefighters say they saw flames shooting out of the building's roof when they arrived.
The fire was knocked down around 6:45 am. Fire officials say the back side of the building is a total loss, but much of the front side remains intact.
Damage is estimated at $500,000, but the cost could go up because of extensive water damage.
No one was hurt.
