Gallatin Rotary Jail (Historic)

Rotary jail/Daviess County Sheriff's residence built in 1888. Inside the octagon-shaped half is a rotating drum divided into eight wedge-shaped cells. Access to individual cells was granted by rotating the entire structure (manually, using a simple hand crank) until the desired cell faced the exit. One of only three rotary jails in the U.S. still standing, this one no longer operates (the rotating mechanism was disabled for safety reasons when it was still an active jail), but is open to the public.
