The year 1987 saw the opening of Kew's third major conservatory, the Princess of Wales Conservatory (opened by Diana, Princess of Wales in commemoration of her predecessor Augusta's associations with Kew), which houses ten computer-controlled micro-climatic zones, with the bulk of the greenhouse volume composed of Dry Tropics and Wet Tropics plants.
