Frihedsstøtten is 20 meters tall obelisk raised as monument of the abolition of the adsription between King and nobility on one side an the people on the other in 1788. Crown Prince Frederik, later King Frederik VII, laid the first stone and the monument was innaugurated in 1797, allmost at the same side. But at that time outside Copenhagens inner fortifications.
