In the year 2000 after heavy rain and flood Tonie and Shirley Joubert discovered a Hippo calf in the river bed. It couldn’t come up. It was too weak. They discovered that it was newly born because the cord was still visible. It’s mother wasn’t there.
They decided to save it and braught it to their nearby home. Today it’s tame and a tourist attraction. You can feed it and scratch it. It even sleeps in their house.
It has often been in TV shows.
