The Kamil Crater in Egypt

The Kamil Crater in Egypt was found by V. De Michele in 2009 using Google Earth. An article in Science Express today announced the results of a 2010 expedition to the site. The site is indeed an impact crater, 45 meters in diameter and 16 meters deep, created by an iron meteorite 1.3 meters in diameter. Over 5,000 meteorite fragments were identified, totaling 1.7 tons! Owing to the existance of ejecta rays, the crater is estimated as being only a few thousands of years old. (source www.sciencexpress.org / 22 July 2010 / Page 1 / 10.1126/science.1190990)
